Hawaii Island police arrested seven motorists for suspected drunken driving between April 13 and Sunday. One of the drivers was involved in a traffic crash and one was younger than age 21.
Kona officers arrested three drivers while officers in Puna and South Hilo officers arrested two motorists in each district, according to data released Tuesday by the Hawaii Police Department.
So far this year, there have been 281 DUI arrests compared with 349 during the same period last year, according to police. There have been 259 major accidents so far this year compared with 289 during the same period last year.
Eight fatalities have been recorded on Hawaii Island’s public roadways through Monday, police said. By this time in 2019, five people had perished.
